Meditation is the science of learning to turn inward and discover the capacity to create stillness. Meditation leads us not only to totally new inner experiences, but helps us to transform our day-to-day life into a better, more meaningful and fulfilling existence.
In this workshop we will first work to find a meditation posture for your own constitution, then move into learning breathing techniques to support focused awareness.
There is no substitute for recalibrating the mind through the stillness of meditation.

Yoga Fundamentals
Firelight Yoga
Sept 16th, 2017 – 3:00- 4:30pm

If you frequent a Vinyasa classes chances are you are all-too familiar with Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskara,) including the dreaded low plank (Chaturanga Dandasana)  and upward dog (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana). These movements are fundamental to Vinyasa classes however, they are not often broken down and taught outright. Because there is such intricacy hidden inside each pose, it’s imperative to gain awareness of proper alignment, breath coordination and transitioning. 

In this workshop, we will develop a functional understanding of individual postures and the flowing links between them, including:

  • Alignment and anatomy of individual postures
  • Beginner, intermediate, and advanced transitional movements, including jump backs and jump throughs
  • How to build strength and awareness to progress in transitional movements
  • How to access the postures safely without straining wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, and lower back
  • How to integrate the breath within the flow to move through the vinyasa with clarity, mindfulness, and connection

This is the last chance to work intimately with Lindsey until she returns from her further yoga studies sabbatical in November. We hope you can join us in this workshop and send her off with a smile shinning from your devotion to your practice!

Arm Balances Two Part Series
Firelight Yoga August 12th, 2017 – 3:00-6:00pm

We all dream of flying, but who doesn’t fear the possibility of a crash and burn? And that is exactly why we need to build a strong foundation of strength, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too! In this workshop we’ll move past those old fears and step into a strong and grounded arm balances studying the ways and means to achieve confidence into these challenging postures.

Part One- 3:00-4:20pm
In this workshop you will:

  • Review anatomy of the ‘core’ and how it relates to arm balances.
  • Practice stabilizing and strengthening techniques as they relate to specific postures.
  • Receive integrative handout with a complete Sanskrit/English list of all the poses that will be covered during the training, as well as information on alignment techniques consisting of both beginning and advanced variations plus health benefits of each pose.

Part Two- 4:30-6:00pm

We will be building on the foundations learned in our previous Level 1 Arm Balances workshop. We will start by studying variations of our base postures and advance into linking these challenging poses together via transitioning with a stream of power, lightness and laughter. This workshop is intended for those who have already taken part one of the series (or my previous workshop in February) and are looking to strengthen their practice.

Killer Core Workshop

June 3rd, 2017 – 4:00-6:00pm

In this fun filled 2 hour workshop you will begin to understand how to apply principals of core strength and stability to your yoga practice.

The root of many common injuries in yoga often come from a lack of awareness and ability to properly engage core muscle groups, thereby leaving the spine & joints vulnerable. Establishing a firm foundation of strength and stability you can enjoy playing with your ‘edge’ in yoga.

In this workshop you will:

  • Review anatomy of the ‘core’
  • Practice certain stabilizing and strengthening techniques as they relate to specific postures
  • Play with fun core flows that will sure to make you laugh (and possibly cry!)

Inversions lindsey handstandWorkshop

This workshop will build the fundamental and foundational strength and engagement that is needed to invert with confidence. We will begin by learning the basics of anatomy in relationship to inversions, how to warm up the body properly and the overall benefits of going upside down. Come expecting to play and practice headstand (and a number of it’s awesome variations) forearm stand, some funky arm balances and handstand. Overcome your fears of flying and build your confidence as we learn the techniques needed to successfully find your balance (as well as how to fall!).

Ayurveda is the knowledge (veda) of life (ayus). This knowledge is universal, but more importantly, it is personal. With this knowledge we live true to ourselves and we remain vital, healthy, and conscious. Yoga and Ayurveda were historically understood within the context of each other. As parallel paths, one was always followed with an understanding of the other. To be a skilled yogi, we must understand our nature from the perspective of Ayurveda, and vice versa. During this workshop series, you will find everything you need to implement a simple, food-based in conjunction with holistic Ayurvedic practices.

In this three week workshop we will cover:
The Four Phases of a Cleanse:
A traditional Ayurvedic cleanse involves four distinct phases, each of which plays an important role in the process:

  • 1. Preparation—The First Step A time to clean up your diet and lifestyle in preparation for an effective cleanse.
  • 2. Active Cleansing—The Heart of the Cleanse A period of eating a monodiet of grains, kitchari (basmati rice cooked with split mung beans), vegetables, and plenty of detoxifying fluids; the process at this stage can be complemented by a number of supportive lifestyle practices.
  • 3. Reintroduction—A Buffer for Your Digestive Fire A time to slowly diversify the diet, gradually incorporating simple, whole foods (other than kitchari) and eventually re-introducing common allergens such as wheat, dairy, soy, and nightshades.
  • 4. Rejuvenation—The Final Step This is the time to offer deep nourishment to the tissues and to promote rejuvenation throughout the system
