Building Strength with Yoga

When people think of yoga, strength isn't typically the first thing that comes to mind. However, it's an essential aspect that shouldn't be overlooked in your practice.

While traditional yoga focuses on endurance and flexibility, modern practitioners are embracing dynamic movements to enhance power and active flexibility. This shift is influenced by disciplines such as calisthenics and external factors such as time. Power Flow and HIIT classes didn’t exist 3,000 some odd years ago!

Yoga's repetitive motions, such as Chaturanga or High Lunge, effectively fatigue muscles, leading to strength gains. Plus, each yoga posture offers various modifications, allowing for adjustments in difficulty. So, as you build strength, you'll naturally progress to more challenging variations.

In any contemporary vinyasa or hatha based yoga class, you'll encounter strength-building postures and transitions, and with consistent attendance (and a balanced diet!) you'll undoubtedly see strength gains.

To further enhance strength in yoga, it's essential to blend principles from exercise science and yoga philosophy. This means strategically integrating physical and mental precision into your practice.

Have you ever found yourself dreading a yoga pose? That's a pivotal moment in yoga practice: how you respond to challenges. Turns out, embracing discomfort on the mat prepares you to face life's obstacles with discipline, compassion, gratitude, and strength. Imagine elevating your physical prowess alongside your mental game.

Yoga isn't just about the physical; it also shapes your mindset and attitude. Strengthening your mental resilience and adaptability is just as valuable as physical strength and flexibility.

Let's stick together through life's challenges in class, flexing our strength and resilience through every twist and turn!

March 18-22nd Class Name: Passages.

Featuring twists, binds and balances. According to the hatha yoga tradition, twists are the most balancing and spiritually engaging postures. Binds ask a lot of both body and mind. Contraction and expansion all in one. Balances bring us to focus. 🧘🏻‍♀️📿✨
